A massive tree planting campaign was conducted today by NGO Siruthuli at the Anna University (Regional Campus, Coimbatore) and over 7000 saplings were planted in commemoration of Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam, former President whose second death anniversary is observed today.

Kavignar Kavidasan, Director of Roots- Indian Ltd, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli along with Tarun A Shah, President Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis, Dr.R.Ramesh, NSS coordinator, Anna University Chennai took part in the initiative.

The second anniversary of “Kalam Vanam”, a green initiative by the regional campus is being celebrated today. The tree planting initiative, joining hands with Siruthuli was started in July 27, 2016, the first anniversary after the demise of People’s President, who was also an avid Nature lover.

Tree planting campaigns have been taken up by 'Kalam Vanam' and in the first phase 5000 saplings were e planted and in the second and third phases 4000; 2000 were planted in October 2016 and January 2017 and in the fourth phase 3,000 saplings were planted in March 2017.

A percolation pond with the storage capacity of 7.5 million liter was also established in the regional campus for to increase the water table and also to quench the thirst of the birds.
